The tiny town of Marshall is located on the East Shore of Tomales Bay in West Marin County. It is just is miles south east of Bodega Bay along Hwy 1. The town was named for the four Marshall brothers who are said to have started the dairy industry in the area. In the 1870's Marshall became a stop on the North Pacific Coast Railroad which connected Sausalito to Cazadero. While there are still a couple of working dairies, the area is used mainly for grazing now. Oysters are what draw visitors to Marshall nowadays. Tomales Bay boasts nearly half of California's oyster production with both Hog Island Oyster Co. and Tomales Bay Oyster Co. The town includes a few restaurants, a post office, and various vacation rentals taking advantage of the stunning views of Tomales Bay. Points of interest include Miller Park Boat Launch and Walker Creek Delta which is a beautiful marshland. For more information on businesses and points of interest see our resource pages.
